Soft Tissue Grafting
Soft Tissue Grafting
Periodontal procedures are available to stop further dental problems and gum recession.
Gum disease, overzealous toothbrushing, poorly aligned teeth and even heredity can lead to gum recession.Exposed roots can lead to increase tooth sensitivity to hot or cold food, root decay (which is very aggressive), and even a poor appearance.
A periodontist can treat this type of problem. Most often, but not always, it involves “borrowing” gum tissue where there is plenty, such as the palate, and moving or grafting a small section to the root surface in question.
For people who don't want to use their own gum tissue, we often go to a tissue bank to get the needed donor material.
What are the benefits of this procedure?
With this type of surgery, the tooth root can be covered and the recession arrested.
